In memory of the legacy of our Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda

August 3rd of each year is remembered by the Chinmaya family all over the world as the day our Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda attained Mahasamadhi (the day He left this physical body and attained Samadhi/oneness with the Cosmic Consciousness). Participating in a Family camp with Pujya Guruji during this period is a unique opportunity that happens only once a year amongst all the Camps worldwide.

What Is a Chinmaya Camp? - Spiritual Retreat

All of us living in this busy competitive world feel the need to recharge the physical body, refresh emotional feelings, and revitalize intellectual beliefs. Such an opportunity presents itself at the Chinmaya Spiritual Retreats, where the integration of the personality takes place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, under the guidance of an experienced teacher. Come and involve your family and yourself in the program offered at the beautiful serene campsite of Rocky Gap Resort .

Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda

Swami Chinmayananda is the founder of Chinmaya MissionĀ®. He entire life was dedicated to imparting spirituality as the art of living. Through Jnana Yagnas and Spiritual Camps such as the current Mahasamadhi Camp 2008, Gurudev spread Jnana Yoga(the Vedantic path of spiritual knowledge). He emphasized the balance of head and heart, pointing out selfless work, study, and meditation as the cornerstones of spiritual practice.

Born as Balakrishna Menon, and dissatisfied by worldly aspirations or his degrees in literature and law, Swamiji pursued spiritual studies for nine years in the Himalayas, under the guidance of Swami Sivananda (Divine Life Society) and the tutelage of Swami Tapovanam. He eventually came to share this Vedantic knowledge with the masses, in the form of the dynamic teacher known as Swami Chinmayananda.

Swamiji is renowned worldwide as a spiritual master and one of the foremost teachers of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. He is credited with the renaissance of spirituality and cultural values in India, and with the spreading of the ageless wisdom of Advaita Vedanta, as expounded by Adi Shankaracharya, throughout the world.

Swami Chinmayananda attained Mahasamadhi on August 3rd 1993. His legacy remains in the form of written, audio, and video publications; social service projects; Vedanta teachers whom he taught and inspired; and Chinmaya Mission centers worldwide, serving the spiritual and cultural needs of local communities.

Each year, Chinmaya Mission worldwide celebrates this holy day as Mahasamadhi Day where we honor His legacy and reflect on our spiritual journey.
